Everything you need to know about finding, capturing, and completing Samin's Research Report in Monster Hunter Wilds
Start Tracking NowDapperwings are a species of endemic life in Monster Hunter Wilds, notable for their distinctive appearance and seasonal color changes. These small birds have squarish heads and long tails, making them unique among the wildlife of the Forbidden Lands.
What makes Dapperwings particularly fascinating is their adaptive coloration: during the Fallow season, they display subdued green plumage that blends with the vegetation, providing natural camouflage. However, when the Plenty season arrives, male Dapperwings undergo a dramatic transformation, molting to reveal vibrant, multicolored feathers that resemble a rainbow when viewed from behind.
This colorful display isn't just for show - it's believed to be part of their mating ritual, with females favoring males with the most flamboyant and well-developed plumage. You'll often spot the brightest males successfully courting their potential mates!
Dapperwings can be found throughout the Scarlet Forest region of Monster Hunter Wilds. Here are the most reliable locations to spot these colorful creatures:
The easiest location to find Dapperwings. Head north from the Base Camp in the Scarlet Forest to Area 2. Look for them perched on branches near the broken tree trunk that lies in the water.
Check the ruins on the west side of Area 12 in the Scarlet Forest. Dapperwings often perch on the upper ledges of these structures. Look carefully as they may blend in with the surroundings.
Visit the shore of the Great Lake in Area 17, the northernmost section of the Scarlet Forest. Look for a specific ledge overlooking the lake where multiple Dapperwings perch during daylight hours.
Find multiple Dapperwings perched on a large trunk where Areas 6 and 3 connect. This location is particularly good during daytime in the Plenty season when their colors are most vibrant.
Around the Bower of the Great Tree (Area 7) pop-up camp location. From there, head over to Area 6 where you'll find multiple spots with Dapperwing flocks perched on fallen trees and branches.
Several players have reported finding Dapperwings on the bridge between the Wudwud and where you can place a Pop-up camp in Area 14. Check this location if others aren't yielding results.
Dapperwings can be found during any season, but they're much easier to spot during these conditions:
Daytime is ideal. Dapperwings are more active and visible during daylight hours.
Plenty season is best, as their colorful plumage makes them much easier to spot among the foliage.
Clear weather conditions improve visibility. Rain may cause some Dapperwings to seek shelter.

After completing Samin's Research Report, you'll eventually unlock additional endemic life research quests, including:
A Dapperwing is a type of endemic life (non-huntable wildlife) in Monster Hunter Wilds. These small birds are characterized by their squarish heads and long tails. Male Dapperwings are known for their ability to change plumage colors based on the season - green during Fallow for camouflage, and vibrant multicolored during Plenty for mating displays.
Dapperwings can be found in the Scarlet Forest region. The easiest location is Area 2, just north of the Base Camp. Other reliable spots include the ruins in Area 12, the shoreline in Area 17, and the junction between Areas 6 and 3. They typically perch on tree branches and are most visible during daytime in the Plenty season.
Ember Rufflizards can be found in warmer areas of the Scarlet Forest, particularly around volcanic or heated environments. Good places to check include the southeastern regions of the map. Unlike standard Rufflizards, the Ember variant has reddish coloration and is often found basking on sun-warmed rocks.
Tracktail Lizards can be found in the Windward Plains region, primarily in grassy areas. They're most commonly spotted in Areas 3, 5, and 9. Unlike Dapperwings, Tracktail Lizards are skittish and will run away if approached directly, so you'll need to move slowly or use the Ghillie Mantle to get close enough to capture them.
To complete Samin's Research Report, you need to:
You'll be rewarded with 10 Blue Mushrooms, 5 Honey, and 50 Guild Points.
Dapperwings primarily serve as collection targets for Samin's Research Report quest. Unlike some other endemic life that provide buffs or crafting materials, Dapperwings don't have direct gameplay benefits beyond quest completion and the small amount of research points gained from capturing them. They're primarily part of the rich ecosystem that makes the world of Monster Hunter Wilds feel alive.
